Work Pieces

We've curated a selection of websites, themes, and plugins we've built over the years. (Heads up: most of our older themes are no longer available on ThemeForest*.)

By the way, Industrial Themes' founder, Brian McCulloh, has a whole lot more going on. When you're done here, check out his personal portfolio →

Highlighter Pro Plugin

Highlighting: Highlighter Pro Plugin

Commenting: Highlighter Pro Plugin

Top Highlighted Sections: Highlighter Pro Plugin

A WordPress plugin for highlighting and annotating text within articles, inspired by Medium.com.
The Challenge
Leverage the Rangy.js library to allow users to create persistent inline highlights and comments, which are private to the individual user, or publicly visible.
The Result
After months of development, we published a uniquely interactive plugin on CodeCanyon. We're proud of how it boosts user engagement through a meta layer of interactivity.
The Hardest Part

Building a layer “above” the page content so users could highlight text in a meta fashion.

Figuring out how to store the data inside of the WordPress post. If we stored the highlighted text inside of the post content, then technically that means users are actually modifying your post content by using the plugin. That is a scary concept, and presented a lot of security issues we had to think through.

Where Is It Now?
No longer available on CodeCanyon, but we released it for free on GitHub for anyone who wants to experiment.

SwagMag: Feb 2012, 2926 sales
SwagMag Theme

Fun Fact: Our very first theme, Caulk, debuted back in December 2009.

*The theme resale market moves fast, and even well-maintained themes can have a short shelf life. A design that looked fresh in 2010 might not resonate in 2025. That doesn't mean the theme is broken or subpar—just that web design trends evolve at lightning speed. We're still immensely proud of each piece, and our sales figures speak for themselves.
